Terms of use
This page sets out the agreement between you and Budi Games, the site published at budigame.com and referred to below as "the site", "we" or "us". None of it is legal advice, and none of it removes a protection that the consumer law of your own country gives you and does not allow you to sign away.
1. Acceptance
Loading a page here, solving a puzzle, reading a guide or submitting the contact form counts as accepting these terms as they stand at that moment. If any part of them is unacceptable to you, the remedy is simple and costs nothing: close the tab and do not use the site. No account exists to cancel and no payment exists to refund, so leaving is complete in itself.
The site is meant for a general adult and family audience and is not directed at children under 13. A minor under the law of their own country should use it with a parent or guardian involved. The children's section of the privacy policy covers this in more detail.
2. What the site offers, and what it does not
Budi Games publishes ten browser puzzles and eight written guides, free of charge, for entertainment. Nothing here can be bought, and nothing here can be won. There is no wagering, no entry fee, no stake, no virtual currency, no prize and no way to convert a result into money or goods of any kind. Your records live in your own browser and have no value outside it.
Numbers we publish about how long a puzzle takes or how hard a difficulty feels are estimates drawn from our own play testing. They are offered as orientation and are neither verified records nor a promise about your own experience.
3. What you may do
Play any puzzle as often as you like, on any device you own, alone or with someone looking over your shoulder. Read every guide. Link to any page on this site from anywhere, including from a forum, a class page or a newsletter, without asking us first. Quote a short passage from a guide for review, teaching or commentary, provided you name Budi Games and include a working link to the page you took it from. Print a page for your own use or a classroom's.
4. What you may not do
The following are outside the licence granted above:
- republishing our guides, page text or puzzle code, in whole or in substantial part, as your own or on another domain;
- embedding a puzzle in a frame on another site in a way that presents it as that site's work, or stripping our name and links from a copy;
- selling, licensing or bundling any part of this site's content, including inside an app;
- running crawlers, scrapers or mirroring tools beyond ordinary search-engine indexing, or making automated requests at a rate that burdens the server;
- feeding the site's text into a service that redistributes it as substitute content;
- attempting to breach, disable or probe the site's security, to interfere with its availability, or to reach any part of the hosting that is not published;
- interfering with how advertising is served in a way intended to generate invalid activity, which harms us rather than the advertiser;
- using the site to do anything unlawful where you are.
5. Intellectual property
The JavaScript that runs each puzzle, the generators and solvers behind it, the stylesheet, the page structure, the guides, every sentence of editorial text, the site name and the logo are our own work, written for this site, and are protected by copyright. Nothing on this page transfers ownership of any of it.
The rules of the puzzles are a different matter, and we claim none of them. Placing digits in a nine-by-nine grid, clearing mines from a minefield, sliding numbered tiles into order, toggling lamps, filling cells from numeric clues, moving rings between pegs, finding words in a letter grid and pushing crates onto targets are all long-established puzzle concepts belonging to the common stock of games. Anyone is free to implement them, and we did, from scratch.
6. Names, trademarks and the absence of any association
We use the ordinary descriptive name of each puzzle so that a visitor can find it. Any such name that happens to be registered as a mark remains the property of whoever registered it; naming it here is a reference for identification, never a claim of any relationship.
Two examples make the position clear. Sudoku is the name popularised by the Japanese publisher Nikoli for a puzzle type whose modern form appeared as Number Place in 1979; the format itself is in common use worldwide and our implementation is independent. Sokoban is a trademark of Thinking Rabbit, the Japanese company that published the original 1982 game; we mention the name only as the historical fact of where the crate-pushing genre began, our own version is published under the name Crate Push, and we are not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by or connected to Thinking Rabbit or to any successor in its rights. The same principle applies to every other title on the site: no puzzle here is an official, licensed or approved version of anyone's product.
7. Anything you send us
If you send a bug report, a puzzle suggestion or a correction, you give us permission to use it to improve the site — to fix what you found, to change what you questioned, or to write about the subject you raised — with no obligation and no payment owed to you. We will credit a correction if you ask us to. Do not send material that is confidential or that you are not free to share, and do not send code or text belonging to someone else. How the personal data inside a message is handled is set out in the privacy policy.
8. Advertising
The site is funded by advertising served by third parties, which is what keeps every puzzle free. We choose where advertising slots sit and we keep them outside the puzzle boards, but we do not choose the individual advertisements that appear in them and we cannot vet the advertisers. An advertisement on this site is not a recommendation, an endorsement or a statement that we have checked the offer behind it. Any transaction you enter into with an advertiser is between the two of you, and any complaint about it belongs with them. 9. Links to other sites
Guides sometimes link outward, usually to a historical source or a reference worth reading. We link because a page looked useful when we checked it, not because we control it, and pages change after we look at them. We take no responsibility for the content, accuracy, availability, security or privacy practices of any external site, and following such a link is your own decision.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
The site is supplied "as is" and "as available", with no warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not promise that the site will be free of errors, that a generator will never produce an unexpected board, that a page will render identically in every browser, or that access will be uninterrupted. Strategy in the guides is our opinion formed by playing, not a formula that guarantees a result.
Nothing published here is medical, psychological, educational or other professional advice. We make no claim that solving these puzzles improves memory, attention, intelligence or health, and no result recorded on this site should be read as a measurement of anyone's ability or condition. These are puzzles, offered as puzzles.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for lost data, lost time, lost profits or lost goodwill, arising from your use of the site or from being unable to use it. That expressly includes the loss of best times, move counts and preferences stored in your browser, which we cannot see and cannot restore. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is capped at the total amount you have paid to use this site, a figure that is and always has been zero. Certain exclusions and limitations are not permitted everywhere; wherever local law forbids one, that part of this section falls away for you and the rest stands.
12. Governing law
These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of them or out of your use of the site, are governed by the laws of , and the competent courts of that place have jurisdiction over any such dispute. This does not deprive you of the protection of any mandatory consumer rule that applies where you habitually reside, and it does not prevent you from bringing a claim before the courts of your own country where the law gives you that right. Ask through the contact page and we will send the operator's full legal identification.
13. Suspension and termination of access
We may restrict or block access from an address or network that abuses the site, whether by flooding it with requests, harvesting it wholesale, attacking it or generating invalid advertising activity. Because there are no accounts here, this is a technical measure rather than a contractual penalty, and it can be lifted by writing to us and explaining. We may also retire a puzzle, rewrite a guide, change a feature or take the whole site down, permanently if it comes to that, without notice and without liability.
14. Changes to these terms
These terms may be revised. The version on this page is always the one in force, and the date beneath the heading tells you when it was last touched. Continuing to use the site after a revision means you accept the revised text; if you do not, stop using the site. Sections that survive the end of your use of the site are 5, 6, 7, 10, 11 and 12.
If a court finds any provision here unenforceable, that provision is trimmed to the minimum extent necessary and the rest of the agreement continues in force.
